Country Living in the City

In my full-time real estate career it is pretty darn easy to spend countless numbers of hours scouring the MLS website for awesome, unique properties- ones that make you dream about backyard BBQ’s, epic pool parties or homes that a built as a designer’s dream.

Well, this week my obsession hasn’t actually carried me too far- only to a road that I travel up and down several times weekly: ‘Red Bud’ in the eastern part of my city, Round Rock, TX.

Red Bud once was a country road that was home to sprawling acreage properties and I’m sure serviced a lot of the local farming estates in the area. Then, large neighborhoods including Forest Creek, Lake Forest, Forest Ridge and others came in a few decades ago and Red Bud has become a quite heavily trafficked thoroughfare; however, modern development hasn’t taken over every part of Red Bud yet! These acreage properties aren’t new to me- I’ve known they are there and exist, but I’ve yet to really dig my heels into them and truly “meet” them.

((Insert a long, nice sighhhhhh))

That is what I imagine you as a homeowner would experience every day when you wake up in your classic Texas acreage property in one of the several more rural sections of Red Bud. And don’t worry, the calming effect wouldn’t go away due to a long country commute to get back into civilization. No, these properties are literally right across the road from the large developments named above…but are worlds away in terms of quality and style of living.

So, there’s no better way to capture the obsession I’ve been onto this week than with photos.

Now introducing: Country, classic Texas living meets “Hey, imagine that- I’m in the city!”

Bring on the Baby!

Wow! It’s been quite some time since I’ve sat down to write a blog post…and it’s not like I’ve had nothing to write about. Instead, I’ve probably had tons and have just been busy and excited with all the changes happening!

First things first: Happy New Year! I don’t think I mentioned that in my last post. How has your New Year been thus far? I pray that for each of you 2014 marks a year of health, grace, laughter, good change, freedom and fun!

2014 has already been a huge year of change for myself and Austin…and surely the changes will continue to come.

As I’ve not actually announced on this Blog, we are EXPECTING and oh-so thrilled!! Yesterday marked week 21 of the pregnancy, so I am over half way there and big changes are really starting to take place- it’s so fun!

For me, the first trimester was….odd. I was pregnant, obviously, but not a lot had changed except for me having to sit out on Happy Hour. Thankfully, and I really mean thankfully because I know how rare this is, I didn’t get sick during my first trimester and instead followed in my Mom’s pregnancy experiences of having a smooth, energized pregnancy. I didn’t throw up. I didn’t really feel tired. My senses weren’t any different than normal. Instead, I just felt kinda bloated and like I was getting pudgy! Not the most desirous change there is…

Now that the second trimester is here (and whoa…I’m already half way through that!) the fun changes have really started to take place!

I have great energy. I feel healthy (except for all the gummy candy I can’t seem to stop eating). My belly is really growing (my belly button is, like, days away from being obsolete). We found out last weekend that we are having a precious GIRL! And Baby is moving and I can feel her! These changes are SO fun and I can see why Doctors say that this stage of pregnancy is the best stage because of the combination of being able to see/feel the life inside you but you’re not too large to still enjoy it and carry on with regular life! I genuinely love being pregnant (this is the 21-week pregnant lady talking…I’ll report back when I’m 37 weeks….)!!

Aside from the physical changes occurring, it’s BABY PLANNING TIME! And what a better place to share nursery/playroom ideas than on a Blog about how to make a house feel like a home? I’m not sure if there is anything that makes a house feel more like a home than welcoming a new Baby into it!

The playroom is my first priority, so without further adieu here are some sneak peeks at what I’ve been up to:

embroidery hoops

((embroidery hoops))

play room fabric

play room paint swatches

I’ll be posting more sneak peeks as the room takes it’s form, but for now back to work!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas…

Well, my favorite time of the year is officially here as I’m sure many of you are feeling!

It always happens every year around late September that I begin to get a little skip to my step as it turns into “pumpkin season!”

I. Love. Pumpkins.

Everything about them: the smell, taste, look, decor, season that they bring! Love them! As we venture from October into November  my pumpkins transition from Halloween pumpkins (I’m not a carver so much as a pumpkin decorator!) to Fall/Harvest/Thanksgiving pumpkins. I guess I love that too about pumpkins: they are relevant both for Halloween and the Fall Harvest season. Then comes Thanksgiving. We are always out of town for Thanksgiving and it has actually sorta turned into this funny tradition for about the last 3 years that we drive home from the Thanksgiving holiday, throw the dogs and the luggage in the house and go straight back out to find our Christmas tree! Then, it truly turns into my favorite time of the year!

Pine smell. Ornaments. Wassail. Garland. Angels. Snow Globes. Oh, yes.

It’s also funny that about this time every year you get on Facebook and your News Feed simply explodes with photos of everyone’s Christmas decorations! At first thought it seems funny, but I don’t think it’s really all that odd when you take note of how this Christmas season makes you feel on the inside: cozy, joyful, hopeful, warm and thankful! If you are feeling that way, it’s no surprise that everyone else is too- and one’s Christmas decor is just a simple expression and reminder to us that it is officially the Christmas holiday! So, since I have not been one to blast my Christmas decoration photos on Facebook yet, I’ll do it here! I’d love to see your decorations too, especially your fun, creative ways that you turn your house into a home during the Christmas season!

Our TREE!

Thankful today that Jesus came in the most surprising of ways to save me and you,

My Most Favorite Soup EVER!

To me, there’s not many things more “home-y” than rain pouring outside, the weather starting to cool and me being curled up in a blanket on the couch sipping on my absolute favorite soup ever.  The icing on the cake would be if it were Christmas time with the tree in the corner dressed up pretty!

But no, really, I have this one soup that is my all time go-to…..Austin really gets sick of me making it over and over and over and over again during the Winter.

However, it’s just THAT good that when a new week comes up and I’m thinking of what yummy soup to stock the fridge with for the week (since we both work from home, we eat a lot of leftovers for lunch and always count on big pots of soup during the winter), nothing compares!

So, let’s dive right in:

Chicken & Vegetable Noodle Soup

chicken-and-veggie-noodle-soup1-300x201

The link above takes you to the recipe that I follow; however, there are a few changes I make:

– I get the pre-washed, pre-chopped bags of kale because one time I made a pot of the soup and it came out sour…and I think the kale was the culprit

– I cook batches of the egg noodles as I eat through the soup and store the noodles in a separate tupper ware (not in the big pot of soup) so that they don’t get soggy in the soup

– I am very generous with the amount of veggies I use and have been known to double to amount of them that the recipe calls for

– Rather than pouring in water, I either put water + chicken bouillon cubes in OR just low sodium chicken broth (I do that with every soup, though. Can’t use just water!)

…and there she is! Seriously, make this soup! It is grandma’s home cookin’ right in your mouth. Plus, this recipe makes a generous big pot full that can last for left-overs the whole week!

A Time For Everything…

“There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.”

AND a time for beige walls and a time for EMERALD walls…

…now is that time.
